There’s a reason why the new Chevy Silverado has been voted one of the highest performers in its class: it gets the job done. Not only is it capable of hauling large loads without breaking a sweat, but it will also carry you and your family comfortably about town and transition to rough off-roading. It’s the whole package! Read on to discover what we love about the new Silverado from Chevrolet.
New Features in 2022
The 2022 Silverado 1500 has received some excellent updates since the last model. A sleek new color palette has been introduced, adding Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic as body colors for the latest models. On the inside of the cab, at certain trim levels, lush fabrics have replaced the vinyl seats for a more high-class feel. Bigger footwells allow for more legroom, and all-weather carpets protect your vehicle from muddy shoes.
In addition, the standard 2.7-liter engine now has increased torque (a total of 420 pound-feet), and the turbodiesel engine can haul an incredible 4,000 pounds more than its predecessor. To carry you and your heavy payload smoothly, Chevrolet Silverados now come equipped with ZR2 suspension. This has the awesome effect of canceling out most of the vibrations and outside noise when you’re off-roading.
Engine Options
Depending on your hauling, transporting, and lifestyle needs, there are four available engines to install in your new Chevy:
- 2.7-liter turbo-four (310 horsepower with 420 pound-feet of torque)
- 5.3-liter V-8 (355 horsepower with 383 pound-feet of torque)
- 6.2-liter V-8 (420 horsepower with 460 pound-feet of torque)
- 3.0-liter I-6 turbodiesel (277 horsepower with 460 pound-feet of torque)
Those looking for a day-to-day workhorse will be happy with the standard 2.7-liter, though if you are regularly carrying very heavy loads the turbodiesel engine has a payload capacity of a whopping 13,300 pounds. If you’d like to strike a balance between good fuel economy and decent towing capacity, the 5.3-liter V8 is the one for you.
Technology
All Chevrolet Silverados have a convenient touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the size of your screen will differ depending on the trim level that you choose. In LT and higher trims, you’ll find a 13.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The Work Truck is fitted with a dual speaker system, and as you move up in trim levels, that increases to a seven-speaker Bose system.
As you can see, the Silverado has a lot of great options to choose from, depending on your lifestyle and budgetary requirements.
