Pick From a Pair of Turbos
A stock turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine sits under the hood for the 2021 Encore GX. It’s good for 137 horsepower and is well-suited for city driving. This base engine earns class-leading fuel economy estimates of 28 mpg in the city and 31 mpg highway.
Most drivers will want to upgrade to the peppy 1.3-liter turbo-three. It gives you a big boost of power — up to 155 horsepower. This upgrade doesn’t sacrifice fuel economy either. This powertrain returns even better ratings than the smaller engine: 30 mpg city and 32 highway when outfitted with front-wheel drive.
Front-wheel-drive models also come with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). If you opt for an Encore GX with all-wheel drive (AWD), you’ll get the nine-speed automatic. However, adding AWD does lower fuel economy figures slightly. You’ll get 26 mpg city and 29 highway.
Cavernous Interior
For a subcompact two-row SUV, the Encore GX has plenty of space for up to five people. Buick’s designers made sure to leave plenty of headroom and legroom so adults can sit comfortably in both rows. The well-insulated cabin comes nicely appointed, and there are soft-touch surfaces on the door panels. Stick with the standard cloth upholstery or upgrade to the luxury of genuine leather seats, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
With between 23.5 and 50.2 cubic feet of storage space, the Encore GX’s cargo area eclipses most of its classmates, plus you get an available hands-free power liftgate at every trim level. Other optional features include an air purifier, a moonroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and remote start.
Impressive Infotainment System
Buick’s standard infotainment system features an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, and Bluetooth. If that techie in you wants more, go ahead and add navigation, wireless device charging, push-button start, HD radio, proximity keyless entry, and a seven-speaker Bose stereo.

The 2021 Encore GX offers safety-conscious drivers like you a full suite of standard advanced driver assistance features like automatic high-beam headlights, rearview camera, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and the Teen Driver system of controls.
