Fishing Lakes Fergus Falls, MN

Of all the wonderful outdoor activities you can do in Minnesota, there’s none other that beats fishing in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”. There’s a reason that anglers purchase Minnesota fishing licenses and visit these prime waters every year. If you’re near Fergus Falls, MN, check out some of our favorite fishing spots in the area.

Maplewood State Park

North of Fergus Falls lies the scenic Maplewood State Park. With eight lakes to fish from, you’re guaranteed to catch what you’re looking for. The park is open daily from 8 am to 10 pm and has boats and canoes available to rent if you don’t have your own.

Battle Lake

This lake is located just a quick 20-minute drive east of Fergus Falls. Local anglers love this lake for the variety of pike, walleyes, and bluegill that are available. There has also been good bass fishing reported out of Battle Lake, and the recommendation is to cast jigs and minnows into the weedy areas of East Battle.

Otter Tail Lake

This 21 square mile lake is the largest in Otter Tail County and is rated one of the top Walleye lakes in the entire state. Even though its deepest point is 120 feet, over half the lake is less than 15 feet, which makes it ideal for walleye and their enthusiasts. You can find fishermen out here every single day of the year, but prime fishing times are the two Walleye openers that occur in the spring and fall.

Pebble Lake

Popular for recreation enthusiasts, Pebble Lake is considered very fishable by boat most days out of the year. The maximum depth of this popular lake is 62 feet, and roughly 40% of the lake is 15 feet deep or less. You can find perch, walleye, northern, and black crappie in these abundant waters.

Wall Lake

This moderately fertile lake is only five miles east of Fergus Falls. As part of the Otter Tail River Watershed, there is an unnavigable outlet on the west shoreline. The deepest part of the lake is only 34 feet, so there will be abundant panfish. People often catch perch, bullheads, and an assortment of rock bass.

Hoot Lake

Hoot Lake has sturgeon, burbot, carp, and the infamous Minnesotan legend, muskies. If you’re after this coveted trophy fish, muskies are tricky, but local anglers have reported success with spinners while hitting the lake during the autumn season.

Wright Lake

Known also as Stump Lake, this 67-acre lake is just 2.5 miles from Fergus Falls. Frequent anglers report that you can encounter a variety of bowfin, pike, and sunfish here if you come early mornings and evenings to avoid the recreational traffic.

You could bring the whole family for a fun day out on whichever lake you prefer. Don’t forget your camera, sunscreen, and bug repellent! After you’re done loading up the car with snacks and gear, come visit us at Minnesota Motor Company and find a vehicle you’ll be proud to bring your next trophy fish home in.
