Towing and Payload Capacity Unsurprisingly, the larger turbodiesel excels at towing and hauling.  The maximum towing capacity with this engine is 7,700lbs, compared to 7,000lbs with the V6 and 3,500lbs with the standard four-cylinder. When it comes to payload capacity, the Colorado maxes out at over 1,500lbs, and its' expansive bed makes hauling bulky objects a breeze. Safety The Colorado achieved the highest possible score of Good in IIHS testing, and it also has a range of safety features that can be installed on the LT and Z71 trims.
