Those grooves do the work of wicking away water so that your treads can grip the road. Worn tires are less able to navigate wet conditions and put you at greater risk of hydroplaning. Your Tires Flunk the Penny Test The so-called penny test is a quick way to gauge the wear your tires have endured. Simply place a penny in the groove of your tire tread with Lincoln's head facing down.
