The 2023 Buick Encore GX is a subcompact SUV that provides many of the benefits of a traditional SUV but in a smaller size. The Encore GX debuted in 2020, and almost immediately became a popular new addition to the Buick lineup. Without further ado, let’s look at some of the features of the latest member of the Encore GX family.
Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain
The heart of any car is its engine and transmission, and the Encore GX has a lot of heart. There are two available engines, a 1.2L turbo Ecotech with 162 lbs of torque and 137 HP, and a 1.3L turbo Ecotech with 174 lbs of torque and 155 HP. The two engines both feature continuous variable transmissions (CVT) and an FWD drivetrain.
The 1.2L Ecotech engine is standard on the Preferred and Select trim levels. In contrast, the 1.3L Ecotech is available as an upgrade on the Select trim and standard on the Essence trim. Ecotech technology in both engines helps to make them more efficient, and this directly translates into major savings at the pump. The 1.2L engine is rated at 29MPG in the city and 31MPG on the highway. The 1.3L engine, despite its larger size, increases this to 29MPG in the city and 32MPG on the highway.
Safety Features
Buick is known for its safety record, and this year’s model is packed with features. All trims feature Buick’s StabiliTrak electronic stability and traction control. StabilliTrak automatically adjusts your engine torque and brake responsiveness in an emergency to give you even better control when you need it most. A rear vision camera, tire pressure monitoring system, lane keeping assist, and lane departure warning are also installed.
Available extras for all trims include rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, and lane change alert. HD surround vision with 360-degree cameras is available for the Select and Essence trims, and Essence drivers can also add automatic parking assist with braking.
Customization
Every Encore GX has all the basic features that you need and a whole range of available packages to allow you to build the car of your dreams. The active lifestyle package, for example, is available on all trims and adds a trailer hitch, cargo liner, trailering harness, and trailer hitch bezel. Exterior customizing options include a hands-free power liftgate, front and rear sports bumpers, and a keyless entry keypad.
If you want more tech, the Select and Essence trims offer an advanced technology package with an 8″ infotainment system with built-in navigation, a head-up display, and additional safety features.
